Vine Plants

Vine plants are among the versatile of plant groups from a design perspective, able to scale walls, drape across fences, scramble up trees, provide cover for banks, and wind their way up arbors, trellises, pergolas, and pillars.

Climbers lend heights and dimensions to the garden, lifting the eye upward and filling in spaces that would otherwise remain empty. With the help of a suitable trellis, a blank wall, or the corner of a building can be clothed with a beautiful flowering vine, this providing an additional seasons of flowers.

Climbing are a kind of fabric that weaves a garden, disguising fences and walls, screening unwanted views. Softening hard lines and edges, and—very often—providing the luxury of blossom to boot. There is a suitable vine for nearly every garden situation—the challenge lies in narrowing down the many attractive choices.
